How do you interview the master of the sit-down interview, the man who coaxed a sweaty mea culpa from tricky Richard Nixon? By waiting until he is 73 years old, and it’s late in the afternoon, and asking if he’s a sell out. Nicely, of course. He saw every question coming, and I’m not the first person to put this to him in the long years since That Was The Week That Was and the Nixon encounters, but I do think the answer at the end is quite revealing.
