Rory McIlroy doesn’t look or sound like the greatest golfer in the world, as he prepares to tee off at a quiet course in Surrey. ‘The way my life is changing does worry me a bit, to be honest, but I just try to concentrate on the game.’ The young Ulsterman has a boyish face, under a shaggy mop of hair. He’s friendly and chatty, not like a superstar at all, but when he plays his shot you see why they call him the new Tiger Woods. McIlroy swings the club as easily as breathing, and sends the ball an absurd distance down the fairway, out of sight. ‘That’s ridiculous,’ says a man standing with us. ‘I don’t go that far on my holidays.’ McIlroy turns with a grin, and says, ‘Your turn.
